As part of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, we are required to provide you notice of what our administrative policies are surrounding the release of what's considered directory information. Because the release of directory information is implicitly allowed without requiring consent, we feel it's important to make sure you receive a notification from us explaining what directory information is, how its release is treated, and how to opt-out from it. Since every student's family must complete the PowerSchool Annual Verification process, we use that as the avenue for providing this notification, and we provide the "Yes" box as a way for us to be able to have documentation to prove we provided that notification if ever called upon to do so by the Department of Education. The wording in the PowerSchool Verification only indicates that you have been notified of the administrative procedures, and does not indicate agreement with or consent to any of the policies laid out therein.

Since the release of directory information is implicitly allowed under FERPA, we include in that notification the administrative process to go through to request the restriction of release of student information. To help make this a smooth process, we've automated it to a high degree. To request further restrictions, sending an email to the address mediarelease@maryville-schools.org will trigger an automated process that will send you a link to our restricted media application, which, when completed, will be forwarded to the person who updates those restrictions in our student information system. Most of these requests are completed and documented within 24 hours, but always within 72 hours.
